Mesón Rincón de la Cava Madrid Reviews
Only for the ambience Nov 09, 2012
This was supposed to be the last dinner before leaving Madrid, leaving Spain altogether.
Located on the outside of Plaza Mayor, near the big staircase.
We walked past this place the previous night and what appealed to us was the décor of the restaurant. It looks like a cottage house with the huge bricks and the overhanging flowers growing on the walls. And as they was a crowd outside, tables seem full we thought it must be quite nice to dine here.
So we did on our final night. We got a table outdoors so we can dine under the stars (or plastic lights, there was a lot of those street sellers selling those funny little shooting lamps which flies into the air and produces funny sounds) and people watch. We were served by the youngest of all the waiters in the restaurant. Not bad looking guy but his service suck.
We ordered the following
(Bread) Pan for 2
Gambas al Ajillo
1 jug of Sangria
The calamari did not taste as nice as we would expect having eaten so much calamari and fried squid this past week! The sangria was a bit more bitter.
The only plus point about this restaurant was the location, its great for people watching and the flowers on the walls look pretty.

Do not miss this place! if you want to have some tasty tapas and eat in a very original and traditional place, this is the place. And if you have any doubts just check the photos I am attaching. Dinner came up to be 25€/each. Besides food we had a bottle of red wine "Muga" from La Rioja. If you do knot know Spanish wines that well, that is a good option, and I believe a bottle was 26€. Service was awesome, well they have been there for years and years, so they know how to treat tourists. It is next to Plaza Mayor, very close to the oldest restaurant in the World (Casa Botín). Very close from there you have flamenco shows (i am writing a review about it). The "Calamares a la andaluza" very very good indeed! ;) By the way, it is not a very large group, you don't have to reserve...
