The largest and best preserved Ottoman bridge in Albania. Nov 07, 2011
The bridge of Mes ("Ura e Mesit" in Albanian) is located just 6 km from Shkodra over the river Kir. Built in 1768, when Shkodra was still part of the Ottoman Empire, the bridge is 108 meters long and 3,4 meters wide. It has 13 asymmetrical arches where the biggest one is 12,5 meters high and 21,5 meters wide.

This is the largest and best preserved Ottoman bridge in Albania and unique due to its distinctive style, resembling the much more famous Ottoman bridge in the Bosnian town of Mostar.

I visited this place in August and there was absolutely no water in the river. Was a little disappointed, but it's still ok.

What is it that makes bridges so appealing and impressive? I'd love to see this one.
