Adventure on Historical Mesa Falls Scenic Byway, Idaho Jul 02, 2014
It’s Saturday morning starting my journey from downtown Idaho Falls, as Super 8 breakfast will be ready at 6:00 am so did not feel like waiting that loan for coffee only. While filling up at the gas station get a large coffee, and as usual I had Banana, Apple, water bottles and some Power Bar for emergency.

I am heading North on State Route 20 (max limit 65 miles/hr). From Idaho Falls to Ashton is only 52 miles but it took me long 50 mins to get there as I was easy on the speed and relaxing, my foot off the gas paddle. Busy enjoying at both sides of highway, beautiful endless green Potato fields meeting the horizon. And what a spectacular early morning view, reflection of sunshine on the water from Sprinkler system that watering the never ending potatoes fields.

Took the Ashton exit towards Statue Route 47, Ashton is a small little town with speed limit of 25 KM / hr, so I was very careful not going over. Saw nice little Hotel, took a picture (will post the picture). My 2nd leg of the journey starts from here. The 28.7 miles Mesa Falls Scenic Byway starts from Ashton, Idaho at the intersection of Route 20 and State Route 47 and ends near Island Park when 47 merge with route 20 once again.

The Mesa Falls are the only major falls in Idaho not used for irrigation or hydroelectric projects, and as such maintain a look and feel of nature undisturbed. At 110 feet and 85 feet, respectively, the Upper and Lower Mesa Falls offer equally spectacular views in a beautiful forest setting. Both falls can be viewed in full, with the area surrounding the upper waterfall enhanced with paths and viewing areas that make it easily accessible to all. Though only about an hour’s driving time, the Mesa Falls Scenic Byway is often a half-day’s journey. It was one of my life time experience to drive through the byway with frequent stops and enjoying the country sides. View of the snow covered mountains in the horizon was beautiful. I will never forget those good memories.

Sometimes it's best not to be in a hurry to get somewhere.

nice that it looks untouched but you wonder how much of energy one could get if they'd used it for irrigation and stuff.
