The Meriden Daffodil Festival happens every spring in Hubbard Park, when the daffodils are in full bloom. As a local festival, it is a carnival type atmosphere with rides and games for the kids, and a band shell featuring local bands as well as washed up relic bands from the sixties, such as Gary "US" Bonds, and the Buckinghams. They have a huge food tent, with dozens of booths sponsored by local groups, such as Kiwanis, Lions Club, local churches, etc. Food and variety is excellent. Tyler and I had our favorites...fried dough with sauce, followed by Belgian waffles with strawberries and ice cream...yum!
(I know, not the healthiest...but GOOOOOOOD!!) They have an arts and crafts area featuring local shops and craftsmen, but the big draw is really the park itself. With a pond, playground, picnic area, and hiking trails, Hubbard Park is a key recreation area in Meriden. It is also known for the THOUSANDS of daffodils that come up this time of year! Entrance to the festival is free, you pay for the food, rides and games with tickets that are sold in various locations. ($5 per book of 10) Parking is limited within the park itself, (we parked on a nearby side street and walked) but they also have parking in area parking lots and a free shuttle bus in and out. Something to do, the last weekend in April in central Connecticut!
