Mercure Welcome Melbourne

We picked Mercure Welcome because of it’s strategic location. It is located by the major shopping centers and China Town where Little Bourke and Swanston Streets meets. This hotel is connected to it sister hotel, The Grand Mercure Swanston. They share the same lobby though reception areas are different.

It was late in the evening by the time we arrived at the hotel. The main entrance was closed thus we had to use the side entrance. It was a little weird though, because we had to walk through some “back alley” with cars and construction by the other side.

This is basic hotel - Nothing fancy however we just needed a bed to rest before leaving.

Our room was clean but I hate the beds. The so-called king bed was the combination of two single beds!

Bathroom was clean but there was a discoloration in the bathtub that made it looks “not so clean”. Amenity provide was enough.

There was a flat screen TV on the working desk with one chair.

Overall is a very basic hotel room in a fantastic location. We will probably go to the sister hotel, the Swanston Hotel, Grand Mercure that is fancier with the same location.

I spent a week at the Mercure Welcome in Melbourne in July 2011. The staff were professional and despite the Welcome being the cheaper cousin of the adjacent Grand Mercure, the staff still treated you with respect and hospitality. Those who know Melbourne would know that Little Bourke and Swanston Street is a great central location to amazing shopping and dining. As long as you're not seeking a 5-star high roller hotel, I would highly recommend this hotel if you are staying in Melbourne! Clean, affordable, hospitable, and most importantly: comfortable.
