Mercure Sydney Potts Point Reviews
comfortable and well located city hotel Dec 29, 2012
The Mercure Potts Point is a first class hotel with a superb location in Kings Cross. You’ll find the hotel right across the road from the Kings Cross Metro station.
It’s a large 11-story building where the reception can be found at the second floor. I believe this is done for security reasons. At night time the area tends to attract a lot of party people and all the not so pleasant side effects. Hence the entrance only opens to people with a room key, after a certain hour.
On the 2nd floor there’s the reception with a large modern lobby, where there is ample sitting place, free Wi-Fi and a few computer terminals for paid internet access. There is also a lobby bar and breakfast area. Breakfast was however not included in our room rate, but could be obtained for 24 AUD.
The service we received upon check-in was absolutely outstanding. Never before have I encountered such a welcoming, friendly and dedicated receptionist. She truly made us feel like VIPS!
Our room on the 9th floor was very spacious: with 2 twin beds, a large working desk, a flat-screen TV, a fridge, coffee and tea making facilities and a large wardrobe with safe and an ironing board with iron.
There was plenty of space to move about and store our bags. Without any doubt, this was the best accommodation we stayed at during our month in Australia.
The bathroom was a good size too and featured a bath tub annex shower. There was also a nice selection of amenities like shampoos, bath gels, soaps, shower caps etc… Furthermore there was a hairdryer and I also liked the integrated clothes line that could be spun over the bath.
The only slightly bad point for this hotel is that there’s only paid Wi-Fi access in the room. It’s fairly expensive for small volumes: 5 AUD for only 5MB. I already used the full volume’s worth after one minute of skyping home.
Especially during the weekend, there could be quite a bit of noise from the bars and party crowds in nearby Kings Cross, but being on the 9th floor, it wasn't too terrible yet… nothing that a pair of earplugs couldn’t fix. On weekday nights however, the area was already much more quiet.
Other than that, this hotel was a perfect home base during our 5 nights in Sydney. The location was perfect thanks to the metro station right across the street and also the service and comfort really fitted our needs. I’d surely stay here again next time I will be in Sydney.
