Mercure Leuven Center Reviews
Good location, lots of construction noise (April 2013) Apr 14, 2013
This hotel is easy walking distance to the University facilities and the historic town center. The new M museum is just a couple blocks away. Leuven has a lot of pedestrian streets, so the area is fun and wander. Walking to the train station from Mercure takes 15-20 minutes.
Mercure is low on charm but very pleasant. The staff is friendly and helpful, and our room was excellent. Note that the hotel does not have wifi available in the rooms, but we were told that was expected soon. Rooms have ethernet connections for 10 euro per day. There is free wifi in the lobby/lounge, which has lots of comfortable seating. (Apparently a couple rooms can pick up the lobby wifi signal, so it may be worthwhile to ask when you book.)
Our room (#111) was quite large and comfortable. It was on the corner and had great windows, but unfortunately there was construction in the street every morning beginning at 7.30. The breakfast cost 18 euro but had a nice variety. We stayed 4 nights and the options were the same every morning. If you decline the hotel's offer, there are several Panos-style bakeries within walking distance.
Our room was clean and everything was nearly-new and in good working order. Housekeeping staff were very thorough and attentive.
Rates were average for Leuven, but slightly high overall. I'd recommend staying at Mercure if you're willing to sacrifice historic charm and character for a predictable, comfortable stay.

in the centre of the world:) Feb 19, 2011
You will find this hotel in the middle of Leuven,
a nice Belgium city, to go to on a citytrip.
From the hotel, you can go for a walk, and eat in 30+ restaurants within 10 minutes.
After dinner, drink a beer on a terrace with one of the good bars. (Belgium is known for their many good beers)
This city has a nice atmosphere and gentle people.
(Note 2010: this hotel is now in the Accor group as Mercure Leuven Center. Note that the picture on their site is that of the Holiday-Inn with an erased nameplate:)
Be shure to use a navigation device to find your hotel,
as Leuven has a lot of one way streets.
(Note 2011: Excavations in the centre of Leuven make it difficult but not impossible to reach the hotel by car. Put as an adress 'Charles de Beriot straat' and turn left at he end. (This will save you a lot of driving trouble) Drive slowly, the hotel is after 100 meters to the left opposite the Thai House.
Change to the Accor group brought a good coffee machine in the breakfast room. They painted the bathroom but th service is still great)
