Average hotel of a big hotel group Jan 17, 2010
Tucked away in a business park in a (after office hours) deserted area within the city of Amsterdam is situated the hotel twin tower complex of the four star Mercure hotel. The hotel belonging to the Accor chain (Sofitel, Novotel, Ibis etcetera) is on the river bank of the Amstel, so if you have a room on the right side and high enough you can at least enjoy a beautiful view.
Our room however had a view on the highway and was rather standard. Bed was OK, bath room was OK, but the room lacked all atmosphere. This is not a hotel suitable for a nice stay in Amsterdam. No atmosphere and not on walkable distance to explore the famous center with canals. As a business hotel it is all right. But don't stay more than one night; you'll get lonely or even depressed...

Our first hotel in Europe May 16, 2005
I was very nicely impressed with this, our first hotel on our tour of Europe. Being the first time in Europe I think I expected something in a more old world design. But this is a newer four star, tall tower, made of glass and aluminum. It has 368 rooms and three restaurants and a lounge. Also meeting rooms, sauna, steam bath, and fitness room we here. It was very clean, our room was large and nicely furnished in modern furniture and the staff was helpful friendly. Our tour had dinner in the buffet style restaurant and breakfast there also in the morning, and it was very good, with several choices.

Our first hotel of our first tour of Europe. This four star hotel is very modern. When I thought about going to Europe, I somehow pictured something with the older architecture, but not this bright glass and aluminum. There is a very large lobby area, and just off is the cocktail lounge. There are three restaurants, but our tour only had meals in the large buffet. Both dinner and the full breakfast were served there, and were very good. This hotel has 368 rooms, and also includes a fitness room, sauna and Turkish steam bath. There are also several meeting rooms available. The location is approximately 10 minutes from downtown. The tram system is at a good distance over the bridge from the hotel. Many of our tour had to wait for quite some time before their rooms were cleaned and ready. Once we were into our room we had no problems, the cleanliness was good, and the staff was friendly and helpful and most spoke good english.
