Great location + comfortable + affordable Feb 26, 2010
I was generally pleased with the hotel. It was located just about 5-minute walk from Edinburgh Waverley Station. My room was very clean and looked new. The bathroom was modern and the room had a flat TV. The heating worked well, so I was comfortable in my room after a long wet day out. I got free English breakfast -- the standard scrambled eggs, baked beans, sausages, grilled field mushrooms, and grilled tomatoes topped with dried oregano. Coffee. And croissant! How I love English croissants, they are so fluffy and work so well with butter that it melts right away in your mouth.

However, the hotel could have done a little better with a few things. First off, either the hotel was understaffed or the personnel were incompetent. I had to wait a good few minutes on the reception during checkin and check out. The guy at the reception, I think his name was Jimmy, was evidently a super multitasker. So, Super Jimmy was answering the phone and showing a reception trainee how things were done, while attending to me. He didn't even take off his handset and stop talking to the person on the other line when handing me my receipt.

Another thing that caught my attention was the slowness of service in the breakfast area. While the breakfast was excellent, the staff seemed invisible. A lot of tables were not immediately cleared away after customers finished their meals. Coffee mugs were not clean -- smudges of coffee or tea stain were visible just under the inside brim of the white mugs. I mean, I still wanted to enjoy my coffee without the stain staring at me every time I took a sip.

Other than that, I recommend this hotel for its location. It's a great hotel for a short stay in Edinburgh.

Faded glory at Ramada Mar 30, 2010
The hotel has a perfect location on Princess Street (the main shopping street of Edinburgh), just next to famous department store Jenners and right in front of Princess Gardens and Old Town with the famous Castle.

The cheapest rooms are in the back of the hotel though, so don't expect a spectacular view. Rooms are small, noisy and need some refurbishment, but everything is there: small bathtub, flatscreen tv, internet, etc.

Breakfast is fine with a nice full Scottish breakfast (the menus promisses smoked salmon though, haven't seen that in a 3 days stay) and a stunning view to Old Town.
