Mercado del Puerto Mar 22, 2011
This is the ultimate place to begin your journey into uruguayan cuisine. Visiting on a holiday, like New Years or during Mardi Gras will guarantee you a party like you've never seen before. Otherwise, just plan on seeing and eating more meat than you've every seen before...

Monster Grills Oct 31, 2010
The Mercado del Puerto is not just a restaurant but a bunch of restaurant all serving up some serious grilled meat from monster grills. While in Montevideo you have to check this place out and eat some good food. There are many restaurants and they do range in prices, and I’d have to assume quality, but the two that I visited were well worth the price. On my first, I went for dinner and ate at what I think was on the high end pay scale. I ordered a serving basically of everything in a sample type dish- and it was huge, definitely too much, but I made sure to eat it all. This gave you a you about two of all the meat on the grill. Then the second time for lunch I found a location that cheap lunch deals and decided that was a good idea- it turned out well with just one steak, and much cheaper then everything. The place seemed to always busy during the day and its not that far a walk from the Ciudad Vieja.
