Luxury with the pyramides next door Mar 30, 2013
This hotel is legandary Mena hotel located directly next to the Giza Pyramides. Great if you want to buy the early morning sale of tickets to be the first inside one of the pyramides.

Origionally build as a hunters hut in 1869. In 1914 Winston Churchill stayed in the hotel. A lot more famous people stayed there. Expensive? Yes, if you stay in the main building. But the newer wing is a more affordable option. The view is not at the pyramides, but at the hotel garden with pond or pool.

These rooms have 5 star business hotel quality.

The hotel is upscale, has beautiful interior. If you do not stay in the hotel, it's worth to go for a drink or lunch when you visit the pyramides. Just to caputure the athmosphere and look at the nice interior.

It has 6 restaurants. Because there were not many tourists some of the restaurants on the pool location were closed.

Ps: since 2013 it's not "Oberoi" anymore. Can't change that name in Travbuddy...

Mena House Oberoi Cairo - Not that impressive... Mar 27, 2011
Stayed at Mena House Oberoi Cairo for three nights.

Location wise, you can't get any better. We were in a suite and had views of the pyramids from out bedroom windows.

Everything else, not THAT impressive. Certain parts of the hotel were very dirty and dusty, like the dinning area.

Staff are always all over you asking if everything is ok when all you want to do is have dinner (mind you, they do this for tips as EVERYTHING you do in Egypt you have to tip 10 people before you're done).

Do NOT use the hotel limousine service to get to Cairo Museum, or if you do, make sure you stick to you plans or Hotel --> Museum --> Bazaar...back to hotel.

We rented a limo service for the above trip and after the museum, the driver decided to take us to a friend's restaurant which was at the dirtiest place I've been to, with the dodgy food and they charged us 75 Egyptian pound per person for food I could have made my self.

We were taken there even though we didn't want to go.

Then we were driven around like idiots for two hours in Cairo traffic.

Finally get back to the hotel to be told that it's an extra 210 Egyptian pound for two hours over the limit...even though we didn't ask to be taken anywhere else beside the museum and the bazzar.

We complained and got the trip from the hotel to the airport for free.

Gym was good, but too far from the main hotel building.

This is simply one of the most amazing hotels ever! It is literally situated about 700 meters from the Pyramids at Giza. Waking up to the sight of these magnificent structures and to the call of prayer at the nearby mosque is somewhat magical! This hotel has a rich history itself, and used to be popular with celebrities and government officials. The entrance is beautiful, with a distinct Arab flavor to it. The lobby is amazing, with a nice bar right next to it.

The hotel has many restaurants to choose from. The main restaurant is called "Khan el Khalili", after the famous bazaar in Cairo. It also has an Indian restaurant, and an international joint. This place also has several bars, and one has spectacular, panoramic views of the pyramids. There are also nightclubs for partying the night away.

At the Mena House Oberoi, the rooms are lavishly decorated with an Arab accent, with a level of unparalleled luxury. Many of the rooms have amazing views of the pyramids and the nearby city. Others have views towards the nice pool and gardens. All rooms come with standard bathrooms, toilet, and shower. The beds are really cozy, too!

Overall, this hotel is amazing, and really gives you a lot for your money.

I live here in Cairo but have stayed in the Mena House. I agree with most of the traveller's comments above. It's the best and the most luxurious hotel by the pyramids. Get a pyramid view room. The old block is best for that. In the newer block you get a side view. If you can upgrade to a suite then wow!!!! They are in the old block and facing the largest of the Pyramids.

Luxury, right under piramides Jun 10, 2006
We were so very lucky to stay on the Oberoi Mena House in Gizeh. The view is priceless! Right under the piramides. There is also a swimming pool, and lot's of luxury. Allthough we had the more cheaper room, this Hotel is not the cheapest one. Rooms start at 200 dollars. We had the luck that our travel agency did business with this hotel for years, and deliver tourists every year.

This hotel has 5 stars in the hotel ratings. The rooms are very good. If you can pay it, this is the best hotel in Giza (and Caïro) I think.

Best View in Cairo Sep 23, 2006
If you are going to visit the pyramids there is no better location or view than the Mena House Oberoi. The hotel and the grounds are beautiful and well cared for even though the hotel is older (built in 1869). Also, the hotel beginning renovations when we were there. The service is top-notch, the pool incredible and their Indian restaurant is probably one of the best worldwide.

My only disappointment was the mattress they used in the rooms...not very comfy. The General Manager, Sanjiv Malhotra, was very accomodating in trying to find a more comfy bed but I think they were all the same. He explained that the mattresses were being upgraded as part of the renovations; so, I'm sure if you go now it will be a 5-star review across the board!!

An absolute must is the Indian restaurant: "The Moghul Room."

Although the hotel is expensive they do run special offers; you may want to check them out:

Worth every penny you'll spend!!
