Today was our day in Memphis, and we ended up doing even more than first planned. Not so much that it was really noticeable but it gave our mileage a boost. I didn’t tell you about an adventure we had a few days back but that time we made a wrong turn and ended up going more or less around in circles a few times. Today we got into Memphis and drove by Graceland and got a few pictures then drove downtown to get some pictures of Beale Street, where all the Jazz and Blues are played.
Then we ...

I was pretty excited to be going to the South for the first time and was even more excited that I would be hitting 3 states in total. My friend Noah had decided to fly into Little Rock as it was the cheapest flight around and from there we would take a rental car and drive immediately to Memphis.
If you are interested in a more detailed account of the drive to Memphis, please check out my Arkansas Blog. But on this page I will give you a brief synopsis. Basically it...

This trip to Memphis this gal couldn't hang out cuz it was so Cold.
Memphis is the home of the blues and rock and roll. All of the early recording studios are there; Stax, Sun, HI/Royal, and other studios, as well as the Civil Rights museum and so much more. I usually visit some of the sites if I have the time, but this time the weather wasn't working with me. But I did hang out for a minute with the Ambassador of Beale St, Rudy Williams. ...

Memphis, Tennessee! It was a pleasure! It was a little scary getting there as there had been major flood and tornado warnings, but it didn’t stop me from going and both my friend and I lived to tell, bonus!
There we saw the Duck Walk, (twice!), ate fine Cajun food (the best gumbo yet), shopped, saw the ending of the MLK ceremonies and had Jack Daniel’s Jell-O shots on Beale Street (those things take no prisoners)!
I was told I had to go...

It was a secret fantasy I thought would never come true. But i found myself so close to Elvis..i had to visit his home. I felt a knot in my stomach as soon as I crossed into Memphis and I could not wait till the next day, when I would drive down Elvis Presley Blvd and into Graceland. It was a rainy day but I didn't care. From the time i got my ticket to the moment the bus pulled in front of Graceland, I had a weird feeling that this wasn't happening...but it was!
Walking through Graceland wa...

Yesterday was a LONG day with much activity. Today was ALL driving. We left the Asheville area early morning while the air was very cool and there was still a thick low-lying fog. "Westward Ho!" on Interstate 40. About an hour and a half in, it was goodbye North Carolina...Hello Tennessee! After 7 more hours of driving, we drove past Knoxville and Nashville and into Memphis...to see Graceland...Home of the King...the 1 and Only Elvis Presley! We were on a tight sc...

This is shot during my time in the wonderful city of Memphis, TN at the Worlds Best BBQ Competition. Why they had a Gillette shaving tent set up at a BBQ festival is a head-scratcher; none-the-less, I took full advantage of it...got a hell of a look out of too.

Memphis is such an awesome city. Very friendly. Beale street was just as excting as any in New Orleans. The BBQ, I have to admit, was not as good as I had hoped...Sorry! Being from Alabama, ...

My reason for stopping in Corinth, MS was to cross this state off my list of states I have visited. I have strict rules that govern this list. I don’t just tick the state off my list because I drove through or stopped to eat. Nope, I have to actually do something to experience the state. Corinth, MS was an important railroad cross roads during the Civil War. Today the most important relic of that part of the Civil War is the Corinth Earthworks. These were a series ...

P.M. ECT: (J) We arrive at the Knight's very southern and stately home. Everyone was starving when we arrived so we went to a famous BBQ restaurant in their
very posh neighborhood called Corky's. (See description in the review) We returned to house after a brief stop
at the Memphis Wal-mart. Really, what road trip is complete with a stroll
through the Wal-mart? Had some wine and took a walk down memory lane and then
'crashed' like good Los Angelans.

Three things here. 1. it is to damn expensive to fly in and out of Memphis. This will be last time that I do this. Even for work. 2. NO FREE INTERNET at the airport3. It is damn hot in here. This is a NWA hub, so the whole airport is NWA centric. Continental only has one gate that they use and no President club. On my way back to Round Rock, TX
