Memorial de Souvenir Dunkerque Reviews
Museum to commemorate the evacuation of Dunkerque Aug 05, 2012
The small museum is located in the fortification's casemates that were built in 1874 to protect France’s coast line. Bastion 32 served as the headquarters for the French and Allied forces during the Battle of Dunkerque and Operation Dynamo (evacuation to England).
The Mémorial du Souvenir Museum is the place to find out about the battle and of the evacuation of more than 338.000 allied soldiers that took place at beach close to the location. In the museum, you can follow the pictures and look at several artifacts that were found on the beach and under water. There are maps, pictures and both allied and German military material. Scale models of the sites of the operation, uniforms, and lots of weapons are also on display.
Don't miss the short movie with original footage, because it shows a good summary of what happened in May-June 1940.
