Mel's Drive-In San Francisco Reviews
Retro restaurant !!! Mar 12, 2014
The day i visited Golden gate park, i spent almost 4 hours in park for running, another 1 hour for massage in a great place near to park, and later i took the road for my hotel, close to Union square and on the Geary avenue. Only few blogs from my hotel (Touchstone), i found this retro restaurant...
When i looked inside i noticed that is almost full, but finally i catched the last one table close to exit.
Τhe decoration is simply perfect!!! Retro style from 50's everywhere in the restaurant!
Stuff were very friendly. I ordered a hot dog with fried potatoes, and two glasses coke. I was very hungry after 10km jogging in the Golden gate park, so hot dog disappeared only in few minutes.
I recommend this nice restaurant for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

If you're looking to splurge a little on some classic American fare, Mel's Drive-In is the place to go. With its 1950's retro theme, you'll feel like a character from "American Graffiti". At each table are individual jukeboxes where you can feed quarters in and listen to the oldies to your heart's delight! Sit at your table as we did and 'Do the Twist' or shimmy in your seat to 'Runaround Sue'. Even though it's a bit overpriced for what it is, the atmosphere and ambience make for a fun experience.
Speaking of the food, every item on the menu, from club sandwiches to burgers to fish & chips or even meatloaf, is hearty and in ample portions. The average burger or entrée costs around $8 and within that range, slightly more or less depending on the item. The french fries are chunky-cut, steak fries that put little fast food fries to shame. For an extra splurge, you can order a thick milkshake (chocolate, vanilla or strawberry!) for $4.50 or even an old-fashioned chocolate malt like they used to make. You'll definitely be very full after eating here and if you can't finish it, you can always take it home.
So if you don't mind paying for atmosphere, you'll get hearty, good old-fashioned food and a nostalgic experience at Mel's Drive-In!
