Great location on the beach Mar 25, 2012
Melia Alicante is located on a pier right next to the Postiguet Beach and close to Alicante´s Old Town. We arrived in the early afternoon and were checked in by a very nice, polite and helpful reception staff. The reception itself was a bit dark. So were the bar and lounge next to it.
The room was large with a tiled floor, a double bed, a sofa, a desk, mini bar and a large wardrobe. The AC was very efficient. It always seemed to be sand on the floor, but I guess that is something that comes with a hotel on the beach. My room was between two buildings, but I could see the ocean between them. WI-FI was free, but if you don´t have your own laptop there were several computers in the reception. Not sure if there was an extra charge for using them. The bathroom was divided into two rooms. One with washbasin and the other one with a bathtub, shower and toilet. The latter also had a heating lamp in the ceiling. The outdoor pool was facing the beach. Unfortunately it was only in the sun in the early morning. So was the jacuzzi. There was a direct access to the beach from the pool area. The beach does not belong to the hotel, so there was a charge for sun beds and umbrellas. Melia Alicante also has an indoor pool. The restaurant was facing the ocean. Couldn´t have asked for a better view while we were enjoying breakfast. A breakfast very few hotels can match. What you couldn´t find on the buffet, doesn´t exist. There were cold and warm choices of just about everything. And the fruit buffet was amazing. I would stay at the hotel just for the fantastic breakfast. The restaurant also serves lunch, but as far as I understood there was no dinner. They do offer 24 hour room service though. With so many charming restaurants in the area, why look for dinner at the hotel? Many of the sights in Alicante are only a short walk from the hotel. Would I stay at the Melia Alicante again! Yes, with pleasure. Can´t complain about €140 for a double room including breakfast in the high season.

Good hotel, great location Jan 29, 2010
During a business trip in Spain this hotel was an enjoyable place to stay for one night. Based on reviews on other websites there seemed to be an issue about the service but in fact the service was correct and friendly.
Lobby/reception: not slow at all for check in, as mentioned by some reviews on other sites. Friendly ladies at the front desk and check in was efficient and service oriented. Room: a very nice and spacious room on the 4th floor with view on the marina and the casino, very comfortable bed, a modern and well-appointed bathroom with tub and shower. Flatscreen TV and in-room safe. Fits normal size laptops as well. Breakfast: a very nice breakfast buffet. All sorts of breads, cold cuts, local cheese, fruits, juices, eggs made to order. Location: just great, best location in the city, from the hotel you walk right into the center. One side is the marina, the other side the beach Value: for Euro 101 (Feb. 2010) including breakfast this hotel provided more than acceptable value for money. Wow. A surprise visit to Alicante for New Years Eve - we were taken here to the Hotel Melia. On the harbourside with views over the Mediterranean from the balcony of our top floor suite! There's a tapas bar and as much alcohol as you can drink too! Lovely place.

Five star hotel at four star prices Jun 03, 2008
I loved this hotel. This is right on the beach. The breakfast is served in a lounge which has floor to ceiling windows which look directly into the sea. Apparently ALL rooms in this hotel look out into the sea and the view is indeed brilliant.
There is a very good restaurant, a swimming pool, a gym, a spa and a jacuzzi etc. which makes it very much like a five-star hotel but the reason its a four star instead is because most of these are extra charge. Its good for people like me anyway because I do not intend to use these facilities at all. All I'm concerned about is the room, the bathrooms, the location, the proximity to something important (like a beach here), the cleanliness, the reception, the bar, the views from the room, lifts etc. In all these respects, it is indeed like a five star. I paid £170 for two nights bed and breakfast so I thought it was pretty good deal. |
