The Melbourne Museum Dec 30, 2008
I did a lot of walking around Downtown Melbourne before I made my way over the Melbourne Museum. It was lucky that I did not waste too much time because by the time I got to the museum, I had only 1.5 hours to see everything before it closed for the day. I knew I would have to make everything I saw worth it and I did not waste too much time at any one particular exhibit.

Out of all the exceptional exhibits in the museum, my favorite was the Forest Secrets exhibit. The Forest Secrets exhibit was my first stop after paying for my ticket and I think I could have spent the entire day here.

The exhibit is a rainforest in the middle of Melbourne. Once you take a few steps into the centre of the forest, you forget that you are in a museum. The forest is open to the air and there are birds, butterflies, and lizards all over the place.

You start out at a small pond with fish and turtles in it and progress into an area that looks like a wildfire went through. The life cycle of the forest can be viewed as you progress through the exhibit. There are also tunnels underneath so you can see the soil profile and underwater views of the pond.

It is a relaxing place in the middle of a first class museum. I really enjoyed the visit.

When I finally roused myself I picked a nearby location for sight-seeing, and wandered down to the Melbourne Museum. This is a wonderful museum, possibly the best I have been to, which says a lot when the standard of museums in London is so high. I started with the Aboriginal exhibition; many photos of historical Abos, and stories of their murders by the white… Melbourne Museum, Brunswick Street & Fitzroy and crazy Salsa night

Museum .   Now I never saw any brochure on this, just a small mention in some book I saw - yes it does exist - very difficult to find information on, but it does exist.   This museum was fantastic!   You read on a few of the horses… Home

The Ian Potter Museum has many contemporary arts made by Aboriginals. The museum wasn't very special in my opinion. The Golden Mile Heritage Trail is very good. This trail takes you along many interesting sites that Central Melbourne has to offer. It starts in the business districts… "Prawns on the barbie ... the best in the southern hemisphere"

You can sit around and have a coffee and a bite to eat from one the bars, or you can visit one of the museums around the square; the Ian Potter Centre of Australian Art; the Australian Centre for Moving Images; or the museum of racing. The buildings alone are quite an artistic statement, with different textures and many walls of complex geometry, someone must have had a real… Back to the city, a week in Melbourne

On Saturday as Claire was working Russell and I went to the museum in the centre. It was a really good museum and Russell was very impressed as it had a big, old computer - what a geek! He did start talking about collecting old computers but if the size of that one was anything to go by we'd have… Marvellous Melbourne
