Melaleuca on Mitchell Backpacker Accommodation Darwin
Melaleuca on Mitchell Backpacker Accommodation Darwin Reviews
Cheap place, good location Jan 20, 2009
A bare-bones backpackers hostel, the Melaleuca on Mitchell is at least fairly cheap, clean and in a great location on Mitchell street near all the tourist facilities. That is probably as much as I can say in its favour though. The internet services are pretty poor (walk down the street to Global Connect for more services at the same price- $1/15 minutes), other facilities almost don't exist and the rooms are really noisy at night as the hotel borders the popular nightclub The Tap and is very poorly insulted from the noise. Perhaps my mood wasn't improved by having to wake up and leave at 1am thanks to someone setting off a fire-alarm by smoking in their room. For people wanting to live the late-night backpacker's life it is probably perfect, and for us (wanting something cheap, central and clean) it was fine, but it isn't the place for someone who plans on spending any length of time in their room attempting to relax.

It's a good job we'd booked in for 2 nights as we both woke up at 9.30 this morning, I blame the thunder and very loud rain that kept us awake during the night.
Today we took full advantage of the generous public transport system here in Darwin and…… Crocosaurus Cove. |
