Mekong Oslo Reviews
A nice local restaurant Sep 21, 2012
Mekong is the local restaurant on the corner. It is located in a part of Oslo called Grünerløkka. In the early 1900s it was a typical working class area, but has been turned into a very popular place, which houses a lot of artists and writers and is full of restaurants, cafés and bars.
Mekong serves Vietnamese and Thai cuisine as well as sushi. I have tired their sushi, Tom Ka Kai soup and their Pathai with chicken All the dishes have been very tasty. The soup was very rich and creamy and the sushi very artistic. I had a tempura roll. Instead of having the avocado inside the maki roll it was sliced and put on top , which made it much more decorative. The place is very simple, but has a friendly atmosphere and the service is helpfull and efficient.
Mekong also offers take away as well as delivery (within 60 minutes drive). When you become a regular they offer you 10% off .
The first time I was there I was very surprised to be welcomed by an Indian lady dressed in sari. Was I not in an Asian restaurant? When I was served the food, she came over to my table to chat. It turned out that she and her husband were the owners. Since they were from India and did not know much about South East Asian food, they had hired a cook and a waitress from Asia. The mix of cultures and nationalities worked well.
If you are in the area and like Asian food, Mekong is the place to eat. Prices are average and portions are good.
