Mekong Express Bus - Reliable Bus Transport Phnom Penh Reviews
Very Reliable and Punctual bus lines Dec 03, 2012
One of the well known and popular bus companies in Cambodia is Mekong Express Limousine Bus lines which operates daily bus services between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap and other tourist destinations around Cambodia and Vietnam.
The bus seems to be good with nice recycling seats, air conditioning with adjustable overhead vents, seat back pockets, bottle holders, window curtains, a big flat screen TV by the driver seat and small restroom at the back of the bus. The seats arrangements are 2x2 with about 15 rows and I felt center row seats are better for comfort. I preferred to sit on the right hand sight of the bus in order avoid the distractions from the opposite side traffic.
The bus schedules are very good starting in early mornings till late afternoon and there is no service in the night for safety reasons.
The staff at the bus station were very attentive and helpful in getting the bags tagged and loading them. I did not see one anyone having any issues on the checked baggage allowance, though it has been posted that 1 checked bag per person. The staff seem to be very friendly and welcoming!
An English speaking female staff provides instruction on board the bus and explains about the route, restaurant break and the travel duration. Later the staff provides a bakery snack box, cold water and refreshing tissue. They play some Cambodian music and some shows while on the road and I did not find the sound disturbing. Staff also took care of refreshing the toilet once in while.
The travel time was reported as 6.30hrs from Phnom Penh/Siem Reap which included 30mins restaurant break. The restaurant they stop seem to be nice with reasonably priced food choices.
For the most part, the ride was smooth, steady and safe except for about 40mins or so, it was a very bumpy because of the new road construction just outside the Phnom Penh area.
I did not notice any delay in arrival and the bags were handed over on arrival without any problems, though they announce that the company is not responsible for any loss of the valuables!
If you need a tuk tuk ride to the city, the bus company offers a prepaid tuk tuk service to most parts of the Siem Reap city for $3.00 with no additional cost! While on board the bus, the attended will collect money for those need a tuk tuk ride and issues a prepaid voucher. I would recommend to opt for the prepaid tuk tuk service, otherwise it would be difficult to find a tuk tuk on your own for that rate.
The ticket cost for travel between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap is $12.00 for foreigners and $9.00 for locals (as of Nov 2012). Tickets can be booked online, booking offices, through hotels or just walk-in if seats are available. Bus schedules and other details are posted on their web site.
I can recommend this bus service for their reliable and safe transport, because I also used this bus serive from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh and did not had any problems.
