In winter 2005/6 I was living outside in the Israeli desert, doing the logistics for hiking groups etc and when I come back to Israel at April 2007 I did a bit of the same but manly work as a guide taking people out for jeep trips...did got to spend a lot of time outside, but as it used to be my work, I end up not taking my camera with me for most of the times...sorry

Ha Eretz, Yisrael...the land, Israel.

I didn't know about this site when I actually went to Israel so I am back tracking and giving some of the highlights of my trip...in retrospect.      I, along with my youth group from my synagogue, stayed in Ashqelon for the first part of the trip in our rabbi's house. It was a beautiful house with a nice deck...and barely any hot water :). It's not that it DIDN'T have hot water, it's just that the heater was on a timer so you had to set it for wh…

First Day - Sede Boqer, Mitzpe Ramon and the way to the Dead Sea
posted by:
Aug 25, 2006 - Aug 26, 2006
On the first day it was around 35 degrees celsius, so we waited till noon to do our shopping of food and drinks for the weekend (taking around 6 litres of water per person). We drove all the way from Tel-Aviv to Sede Boqer, something like 2.5 hours, through the city of Beer-Sheva and other small farmer towns. Our first stop was the graves of the first Israel Prime Minister - David Ben Gurion. He was a big fan of the desert and he dwelled there after he stopped being a prime minister in Isra…

Boot Camp Zikim
posted by:
Dec 14, 2004 - Mar 19, 2007
Boot Camp Zikim is a few short miles from Gaza strip, so we used to wake up to the sound of helicopters and bombing. I was lucky to have a friend in the commander faculty, so it wasn’t as scary to leave home for 3 weeks. The next day they gave us M16 to carry around wherever we go; sleep, eat, shower and what not. It was an adjustment we had to make, walking around with a spear leg J During those 3 and a half weeks we did shooting ranges, gas mask orientation, first aid classes and a lo…

Israel 2006: `Arad Travel Photos
posted by:
May 08, 2006
For three weeks from May to June of 2006 I had the time of my life as I traveled all around Israel with my "History and Geography of Biblical Lands" group through JUC (Jerusalem University College) on Mount Zion in Jerusalem. I loved every minute that I was in Israel. It is amazing to see the places where the Biblical events took place. Some may say it's simply rocks, but to me the archaeological sites mean so much more. Jerusalem has won my heart forever! Can't wait to return

Camel Ranch
posted by:
May 27, 2007 - Jun 05, 2007
All in all the camel ranch was dissapointing.  Garrett and I were looking forward to riding them, but our ride lasted less than 20 minutes and we spent half of that walking.  Camels really aren't great to ride - their movements are awkward and jerk you around.  Getting on and off of them is also a task.  They sit and stand unevenly; on the way up, their back ends shoot up, leaving you leaning back for fear of falling off.  On the way down their front drops suddenly, a…

Dimona: In Search of Black Hebrews
posted by:
Jul 15, 2007 - Jul 31, 2007
A few hours in advance of our arrival, my friend and I called the black Hebrew community center to ask if someone could-and would be willing to-show us around and speak to us regarding their ways. They agreed. Our host was a relatively young man who spoke English, with an American accent. According to him, blacks in Dimona traveled from the US to Liberia (OT biblical course) to Israel around 40 years ago, as a "return" to Israel, and, inherently, to Africa, becau…

so after i awoke and discovered that i could indeed still see yotvata, i thanked the bedoiuns the best way i could and began walking. after a good 2 hour trek i arrived. i discovered that yotvata has a very large volunteer population. a great many of them are enrolled in a program to learn hebrew. but once again SURPRISE! they all came through a service. at this point i felt completely defeated so i decided to catch a bus back to jerusalem. so i waited around until a bus came in from eil…

I'm a grad student in conflict resolution, and for school, I attended a UN conference on conflict resolution and negotiation techniques. Afterward, a delegation of us students went on a goodwill peacekeeping tour of Israel/Palestine in order to put some of these new skills to practice.
