Medugorje Vacation Guide
Until 1981 Medugorje was like any other small village in Yugoslavia. However, in 1981 six Herzeogivian Croatian teenagers reported seeing the Virgin Mary. As word spread across Europe and other international Catholic communities, Medugorje became a pilgrimage destination. Today, the residual benefits of the apparition can be found in the burgeoning tourist industry. Medugorje now boasts the title of having the largest number of beds available for rent in all of Bosnia and Herzegovina (it also has a fair share of religious trinkets available for purchase). A trip to Medugorje during Holy Week/Eastern Weekend is highly recommended, as the city is flooded with devout religious tourists from around the world.

I spent 8 months in Bosnia on a research fellowship for graduate school. It was a great experience and I got to travel around the region quite a bit. I'd highly recommend the Balkans if you are looking for adventure, hospitality, great food. It is also gentle on your wallet. Enjoy the photos.
