I spent 8 months in Bosnia on a research fellowship for graduate school. It was a great experience and I got to travel around the region quite a bit. I'd highly recommend the Balkans if you are looking for adventure, hospitality, great food. It is also gentle on your wallet. Enjoy the photos.

Yesterday we ventured out of Mostar to the little backwater of Medugorje. The town has made its name by becoming the third most visited pilgrimage site in Europe. In 1981 a few teenagers claim they saw the virgin mary on the hilltop above Medugorje and as a result the place has become a tourist haven for the thousands of Christians making the pilgrimage to the hill every year.
