Medinaceli Barcelona Reviews
The hotel in the Barrio Gothic Aug 19, 2011
Medinaceli is a strange place... It's the 4 stars hotel, but it has inadequately good service.
We had a safe-box in the room, but we didn't have a key. Mini-bar was empty. Hair-dryer is not usual dryer, it's strange big system... And i don't understand why anybody needs a phone in the bathroom (it was there)? One day a lift was broken and we had to use the stairs - it was funny and awful, cause there are the emergency stairs only.
The location is very good - in Barri Gotic (old city), near Rambla, near the sea. The building of "Medinaceli" is the old palace of Spanish duke, and you can see a square in front of hotel in the film "All about my mother" by Almodovar. The square is beautiful, but there are so many drunkards, they wash their feet in a fountain... And every day drug dealer sits here.
The hotel doesn't have a restaurant, it has a breakfast-buffet only. But the breakfast is not included in the price. So, breakfast in the hotel is not good idea, cause near the hotel there are a lot of cafe and market Bokeria, where you can eat fresh seafood and drink natural juice (my friend drank cava always, it's Spanish sparkling wine).
Wi-fi is not free, 12 euros a day.
The staff was quite friendly like everyone in Barcelona, but we couldn't pay our bill a lot of time - automatic system doesn't work when we wanted:)
We had a big discount, and it was good price, but i think, whole cost is too big for such hotel.
Anyway, Barcelona is too wonderful to sit in a hotel... So, you can go out and after a few minutes you can see Rambla, the seaside, you can go to walk around stunning Barri Gotic... Good luck in Barcelona!
