Danau Toba (Lake Toba) is the largest fresh water lake in Southeast Asia and is the largest crater lake in the world. The town of Tuk-tuk on Samosir Island in the middle of the lake is where most western travelers go.

While on a monitoring trip in March and April 2005 we took a 2 day break with collegues and travelled to Lake Toba. It is a beautiful place and it was surreal to visit that beauty after the death and destruction after the Tsunami. A breath of fresh air.
