Mavrovo Ski Area Reviews
One of Europe's great undiscovered budget ski areas Mar 05, 2011
With 2 chair lifts and 9 T-bars serving 2,297 feet of vertical drop, Zare Lazareski ski resort is perfect for a budget ski get away.
International flight service is available into Skopje Airport and from there the area is easily reachable by a short 1 hour drive by car, taxi, or bus.
The Slopes offer a wide variety of well groomed slopes from beginner to expert and a large ungroomed area of natural powder also.
Hotel rooms are available from $32 USD/nite (my favorite is Hotel Alpina at the base of the lift areas). Rooms in homes are available for as little as $8-10 USD /nite. Food, beverages, and everything else are similar bargains.
Ski equipment (skis, boots and poles) are just $4.50 USD per day, and lift tickets for $15 to $25 per day (a whole season pass is about $440 USD). The slopes are uncrowded and you usually find nobody else in sight while skiing down a run. Lift lines are nonexistant even at their busiest times.
Mavrovo is a small village with wonderful scenery and a tranquil atmosphere. A great place for families and those of us that like a quiet and friendly atmosphere.
I rate it 4 stars overall and highly recommend it for anyone on a budget. Even with airfare it is an inexpensive option from anywhere in the world.
