One Tree Hill, one of the best view you can get of Auckland city. It is a Volcanic Peak in Auckland next to Cornwall Park and the Stardome Observatory.

There are 2 options to visit this could take a bus from Auckland City and walk 182 metre to the top (good for improving stamina, :p) OR simply drive to the top. You might want to bring a layer of warm clothing as it can be abit chilly and windy up there.. :)

Great way to spend the weekend with a picnic at Cornwall Park, but choose your spot wisely as the place is surrounded by sheep, and of course not forgetting the poo..

None Tree Hill May 12, 2010
Maungakiekie is a large volcanic cone in Auckland towards the Western shore by Onehunga. Maungakiekie loosely translated through my foggy memory is "The Tree Stands Alone", this soon became One Tree Hill, due to a single Tree standing at it's summit.

Visitors will be forgiven for seeing no tree as the hills nickname is currently None Tree Hill. as back in the 1800's the titular tree had been cut down by a white settler. Tensions arose due to the significance of the tree to the Maori peoples so another tree was planted. This was the wrong type of tree unfortunately and suffered attacks by Maori activists who were angered by issues since the signing of the Waitangi Treaty which over 200 years later is still a hot topic.

Now the hill is adorned by an obelisk marking the grave of Sir John Logan Campbell who once owned the land and gave it to the people to form the One Tree Hill Domain.

Domain land is land owned by all peoples of New Zeland. It is a park land that encompasses farm land for grazing sheep and cattle. The park serves a great day out for a picnic with plenty of free barbecues dotted around the park.

They also have an observatory to star gaze in the evenings. There is a nice playground to keep the little ones occupied.

The true gem of the domain is clearly going to be the volcanic cone itself. The view is sublime. Offering views of both the East & West coast of New Zealand whilst being surrounded by history.

One Tree Hill can be easily reached from Queen Street by either getting a bus or train to Onehunga and then turning to the volcanic mountain.

Currently the government are growing trees with the view of planting a total of nine trees on the hill and thereby changing its nickname to Many Tree Hill!!

There's a history about this Maungakiekie (One Tree Hill park, you can read about this park history from the wikipedia (,_New_Zealand).

If you got nothing to do while you're at auckland or just had your dinner and wanna have a walk, this is good place to go and to spend time with family. You can see a lots of sheep walking around, and it's a very nice place. Beware of the Sheep poo poo, you can see it everywhere haha. Especially you're walking on the grass...!!
