Matvin Hotel Hohoe Reviews
Affordable, clean, rooms with friendly staff. Great value for Ho Hoe Dec 01, 2008
The Matvin is a great hotel for your stay in Ho Hoe. I think it's the second cheapest in the town one step up from Grand Hotel with a self contained single at 10 Ghana Cedis per night. Mind you the single is really the American version of a full to queen size bed so two people can actually sleep very well on it. Good water pressure in the showers (though the Bradt guide claims hot water at this price, it's not so, maybe only in the chalets?) but still a very good deal. Some of the cleanest sheets I've seen even though I still carry my own with and furnished with a desk, usually two chairs, and a wardrobe. There's a restaurant on site but I chose to eat at Grand Hotel as it's more centralized and a better place to meet other backpackers just stopping in for a drink. The staff at Matvin also come in daily to clean your room unless you say otherwise and it's situated on a small river so it's far from the noise of the town (unlike Grand Hotel which is very noisy!).
Eugenia is the front desk lady at night time and the sweetest person ever. If you need anything or even want a more comfortable bed, she'll gladly accomodate you however she can. They do offer air conditioned rooms with televisions but don't think you really need them.
Cons: No mosquito nets (though they have screens everywhere and the hotel is mostly indoors so I still didn't have a problem), a small distance from the center of town but still within walking distance
