Matsu New York Reviews
Sex on the Beach Roll is a must eat, not do! May 11, 2009
Frequented by healthcare workers and locals alike - this small Japanese sushi restaurant is nearby to 3 NYC hospitals in the Upper East Side - offers great sushi at a reasonably price, without breaking the wallet.
Try the miso soup, gyoza (pan-friend dumpling) or ika maruyaki (bbq jumbo squid) for starters.
They offer lunch specials of:
Rolls special (choose 2 or 3), Sushi or Sahimi Lunch, Chirashi Lunch or Donburi Lunch, all less than $12.
They have famouse Japanese bento box options, or the teriyaki, katsu, tempura, or the donburi entrees. Udon and soba noodle soups, and nabeyaki are also represented in their menu.
For rolls, their spicy tuna or the spicy salmon rolls are delish!
But I highly recommend their Rolls to Remember, a specialty menu of rolls that are unique and adventurous to the palette.
The 'Spicy Rainbow Roll' made of spicy tuna inside topped with assorted fish & avocado are fantastic. Or try the classic favorite of 'Dragon Roll' made of eel & cucumber roll topped with avocado & tobiko.
But my absolute favorite is their famous 'Sex on the Beach' roll made of shrimp tempura roll topped with eel, tobiko & 3 kinds of sauces that is simply heavenly!
Enjoy looking at the walls covered with polaroid pictures of regular customers with their own little messages. ^_^
