The Pantanal is the world´s largest wetland area covering about 150,000 square kilometers. Upon arrival we to a guided boat tour. Along the way we saw hundred of caiman which could be confused with a crocodile, a few Capybara which at 150 pounds make them the largest rodents in the world, three giant otters which are the top fishers in the rivers but are now high on the endangered list, and too many birds to list. I was surprised how close they brought the boats to the Caima…

So it's up and off to the Pantanal. We stop at a wee town to stock up on snacks etc and the park the truck up and get a ride in a couple of 4WD's. We both nearly got one but each time the piranha mananged to riggle free and bounce back into th…

So we left rain soaked Paraty early on the 21st October and began our 2 day bus journey to the San Jaoa farm in the Pantanal. We pitched camp on both nights beside service stations, the first been a pretty decent, the second not so much. We even managed to acquire some wine in the service station restaraunt, though we were told it would be quite impossible since beer isn´t sold in any service station in Brazil (@ 3 euro a bottle quite a find also). The Pantanal is a massive wetland of 230,000…
