Matkailukeskus Rauhalahti Holiday Centre is one of the bigger camping grounds in Finland and is located a very short distance from Kuopio town.

The centre offers a wide variety of accommodation to suit many tastes. One can find here all-year-round holiday villas, summer cottages, electrified caravan places along with an extensive camping area.

Types of accommodation:

- 2-floor 6 person holiday home with 3 bedrooms, open-space kitchen and living room; sauna, shower and toilet; patio and terrace; fully equipped kitchen with fridge, freezer, electric stove, microwave oven, dishwasher; laundry machine and drying cupboard; cd-player, cable-TV and DVD-player; linen, towels, wood for the fireplace

- 4 person holiday home with 2 bedrooms; open-space kitchen and living room, fireplace; sauna, shower and toilet; patio; fully equipped kitchen with refrigerator, freezer, electric stove, microwave oven, dishwasher; laundry machine and drying cupboard; cd-player, cable-TV and DVD-player; linen, towels, wood for the fireplace

- 4 person holiday cottage with 2 bedrooms, open-space kitchen and living room, toilet and shower; fridge, electric stove, microwave oven and basic dishes; cable-TV; linen and towels

- 4 person camping cottage with beds for 4 people; fridge, cooking plate and basic dishes; running cold water; common toilets and shower

- 2 person camping cottage with beds for 2 persons; common toilets, showers and kitchens

- caravan area with 237 asphalted caravan places with electricity, 102 of which are equipped with a water supply

- tent area with about 300 tent places and possibility to rent a fridge or a safety locker during your stay

For all those on the budget, thus enjoying only the very basic camping options, the campsite offers service buildings with kitchen and dining facilities, toilets and showers (including disabled), laundry and drying rooms and a common area with TV and chill-out room.

The site has three saunas to rent situated on Lake Kallavesi shore: Manor Sauna with a fireplace room and its own wharf where you can swim; and two smaller Beach saunas. All saunas can be rented only during summertime for 50 minutes.

Additionally, the site operates summertime restaurant Maccoy offering an assortment of meals and cafeteria products. It has a separate outdoors bar at the sun terrace. Fresh take-aways, like baguettes and bread, can be ordered here.

Next to the restaurant one can find a mini shop with fresh bread, groceries and souvenirs. The shop remains open only during June and July.

The entrance to the campsite is gated preventing random strangers access to the grounds.

The reception is conveniently located at the gate where you can check in and gather all information before heading to your spot.

As our stay here was pretty short to start with, we have chosen one of the very basic 2-person camping cottages. Per site’s description it was very simply equipped with just 2 beds and a small table with a stool. Not looking for comfort though, but just a little brake from putting up the tent, we were pretty content with this arrangement.

One of the very cool things about the place is the possibility of parking your car right next to the cottage, even if the smallest one of all (roads are asphalted with a small parking space located by each cottage).

The site is quite sizable providing a lot of space between cottages and ensuring a little more privacy.

The layout is well organised with service buildings being positioned in the central point between all the areas requiring use of those.

Kitchens are simple and functional with stoves with ovens, washbasins with hot running water, microwave and coffee machine. Dining area surrounds the main kitchen area.

Showers and toilets, though in the same building, are separated in two different areas allowing less crowding and better flow of people.

Having booked only 1-night stay here, we did not get a chance to use any of the saunas.

We were well pleased with this establishment; though €33 per night for a tiny cottage might seem a little excessive (one must remember it is Scandinavia after all).
