Off To Home Depot

When we last left off my car was stranded at an airport parking lot with a dead battery, and the parking lot attendant wanted my waiver of responsibility form which mysteriously disappeared.Well, getting home from the airport was quite fast thanks to the rude taxi driver we had. Why rude? I won't go into everything, but the ride ended with him not wanting to allow me to charge the ride home even though the cab had a sign that credit cards are accepted. I wouldn't have minded paying cash…

Finally!

I have lived within a half hour of Six Flags America for 4 years now.  Being a roller coaster fan, I decided this year that my lack of a visit to such a close amusement park was an ill that needed to be remedied.  Thanks to a buy-one-pass-get-one-pass coupon I had picked up at Burger King, I had strong leverage to entice (coerce) some friends into joining me for a fall trip to Six Flags. We arrived at the entrance 30 minutes late (Mapquest lied again, this time to Becky), 15 dolla…

We have been planning to meet up with Mark (marksreynolds) and Lena (bwitch16) again for a while. We live relatively close together so we decided to meet on their turf this time. The renaissance fest was the perfect opportunity. The weather was on our side as well. A beautiful 85 degrees. The drive out to Annapolis went by quickly. Though I won't mention standing in traffic for 45 minutes just to get to the parking lot. Oops, I just did. ;) Mark met us at the gate after we stood in line to ge…

Well, I really can't write about all these other places in the world without promoting MY fine state can I? Baltimore: "Charm City' is a secret gem of a place to visit, and to live. It was crap in the 1970's, but has risen above to become a great destination. Since I fly, I'll show you much of the state from the air AND the ground. Enjoy. Travelogue in-progess.

The Road Goes Ever On

The days are counting down for me to leave for my "vacation". I will be leaving the country for about 5 months first traveling Europe for 2 months and then hopefully working in the U.K. for 3.  Right now nervous tingles are going through my body as I try to figure out what else I need to buy, who I have to call and what my plan is going to be.  This is what I have so far: Plane Tickets (JFK -> Rome) - August 1st and (London -> JFK) December 27Rail Passes: 15 days within 2 mont…

2007 in Review

2007 was a good year.  After 6 years of silence--playing music only to myself--I finally decided it was time to reconnect with the world again.  At first I tried going out and playing at Open Mikes around the area... then I started doing Coffeehouse gigs... these were fun--but somehow not fully satisfying.  I guess I've got this need to feel I'm doing something unique, and Open Mikes and small gigs just weren't doing it for me. Then, early one Sunday morning I had this inspira…

Or my home for the the week. I'm back in Columbia, trying to get stuff together to fly to Tampa tomorrow. Packing and repacking kinda sucks ... but maybe that's just because I'm not used to it yet. And doing laundry in the hotel is a little weird too because I have this strange fear that someone will take my non-exciting clothes from me. But really, maybe I should really just chill out, because why would anyone want my stuff? I'm so excited to spend some time in Florida. I love the wate…

Baltimore - the trip that almost wasnt
posted by:
Aug 19, 2008
This was the hardest trip ever to put together.   Every time I want to go to Baltimore there is either bad weather or no seats available to fly there.   I have been wanting to go to Baltimore for awhile, but when my airline announced they were not going to be flying to Baltimore any more, things became more urgent.  Things seemed to be coming together perfectly with the Red Sox in town, me being off of work, and the flights being pretty wide open.  I decided…

The view atop Sugarloaf Mountain
posted by:
Nov 23, 2001 - May 24, 2008
Just 30 minutes northwest from DC, you'll find mountain views and fall foliage to your heart's delight. We decided to see for ourselves one crisp autumn day.We didn't exactly plan to go to Sugarloaf. Instead, we were headed out west on I-66 to the Graves Mountain Festival in the Virginia mountains. But traffic was so dense, we realized it would take us most of the afternoon to drive there, leaving us only with a few minutes of daylight to enjoy the festival. So instead we turned around and he…

An Afternoon at the Beach
posted by:

After a frustrating morning of trying to get errands done and getting thwarted several times, I headed off to another of Maryland's state parks that I had yet to visit: Flag Ponds Nature Park.  A little ways south of the county seat and just north of the nuclear power plant, I pulled off the main road and paid my $4 entry fee (yay for being a county resident). The Visitor Center has several display cases showing off the birds of the area and many of the fossils and shells that can be fo…

Shooting From The Hip

So I don't think of myself as the most spontaneous person, but I'm starting to realize that maybe i am much more spontaneous than I see myself. I've had this "roll with it" attitude towards life for a while now, and it really rules me when I'm out on the open road. I guess the freedom of not having any commitments or responsibilities and just being able to point my car in any random direction and say "I feel like checking this place out" makes me feel very at home with myself (if that makes a…

I grew up near Boston and the only aqurium I ever visited was the New England Aquarium.  I was excited to lear baltimore had and Aquarium because I love marine life and to look at all the different animals and all the different colored fish and birds.  They have an Atrium as well wich is cool because well like I said I like to see all the different kinds of birds.  So we left early one morning and drove into Baltimore and we found a place to park and started walking around and …

I made my third and final attempt to use a buddy pass my friend Michael gave me back in June. Previous attempts to get to Boston and Jacksonville were thwarted in July, so I decided to try one last time before 2007 and my buddy pass expired. Becky recently moved to Baltimore to teach at an inner-city elementary school. As a first year teacher in the murder capitol of the world, settling into Baltimore has been a chore for her. I figured we'd explore the city for NYE and hoped it might make th…
