Lena and I were married 23 June 2007 after living together since Oct 1999. We started planning this wedding three years in advance, and we believe it went almost perfictly. Lena is originaly from Sweden and came to the United States with her first husband , an American, in 1997. Lena and I met while working for the same bio tech company in Rockville, Maryland. We became close friends and soon relized we were both in the same situation with marrages not working out. We dated for about a …

According to legend, several centuries ago a Spanish ship wrecked on the coast of Assateague Island. As the ship broke apart, the horses fought the waves to find sanctuary on the sandy land, and today their descendents roam the barrier isles. Although the ancestors of the wild ponies are most likely simply runaways, I was still very excited to visit Assateague.
After stopping in the Visitor Center (which has a neat touch aquarium), I drove across the bridge to the island. …

Since our first meet up earlier this year, Andrea (missandrea81), Lena (bwitch16) and I all wanted to get together again and spend the day at the Maryland Renaissance Festival. We finally picked a date and I sent Andrea some information on the festival and how to get here. Lena and I go to the festival a few times a year, so we were ready to show Andrea and her husband Alex the town. Since Alex and Andrea are not early risers, and they are driving from Alexandria, Va., they said they w…

Pulling into Thomas Stone National Historic Site, I followed the road to the left which led to the Visitor Center. A simple display explains the role Thomas Stone played in the events that shaped the beginning of our nation as well as some background on the man's legal career. A video is also available. After letting the park rangers know that I was interested in a tour of the house, I headed off along the road, one of two routes to the house.
The house that currently stand…

Less than a ten-minute drive from Fort Washington, the remains of Fort Foote are one of the few reminders of the 68 forts that once defended Washington DC during the Civil War. I had known that the capital had extra protection during the war but I had no idea how extensive that system had been. Wandering around in the wooded area where the fort had once been, I was fairly unimpressed, just seeing hills of dirt, now covered in grass. Then I came over the top of one of the emb…

Today we have to pack up and leave.
We had such a good time here and I’m not looking forward to going back to work.
It will be nice to get back home and sleep in our own bed again, and see our
kitty who I’m sure is missing us very much!
After getting everything packed and
in the car, it was time to say goodbye and head back to the dreaded town of Florence. The only good
thing this time is we can leave the rental car at the train station and the…

Having lived in Calvert County for over two years, I decided it was time to start visiting some of the local tourist sites. First up: Annmarie Garden in Solomons in the deep south of the county. The focus of this garden is not the beauty of flowers but of sculpture with most of the pieces on loan from the Hirshhorn Museum of the Smithsonian Institute in DC.
After entering through ceramic gates, I circled A Tribute to the Oyster Tonger on my way to the parking lot and the Visitor'…

After a short stop at the Chamber of Commerce (which has free parking for its visitors), I headed out of Salisbury to find the Pemberton Historical Park and its hiking trails. I missed the entrance on the left due to 1) construction right beyond the entrance that distracted me and 2) the sign is very small and not brightly colored. The drive leading up to the buildings has a speed limit on only 10 mph which I pretty much obeyed since going much faster created a much bumpier ride.

Thunderstorms overnight had brought down tree branches and left the streets littered with debris. But, I was on my way from Springfield at the usual time for the third trip to Rockville and Maryland in as many days.
Rockville has its history and the community is proud of it. The local historic preservation organization goes by the name of "Peerless Rockville", invoking a real estate promotional phrase from the turn of the last century. Traffic around the Capital Beltway was t…

I spent all day Friday running around my mom's house, packing, getting things together, making sure I had everything that I needed. I tend to forget things and I really didn't want to do that this time around. So the day was spent washing clothes and packing. My brother and I got picked up by my dad, (MarksReynolds on here) after he got off work and away we went. Got to his house and grabbed more stuff to shove into my luggage. Lena, my stepmother, and I are currently reading the same book se…

Not sure how I didn't fall asleep during the car ride from
the airport in Baltimore to our home in Annapolis, maybe all this
talk of Tropical Storm Hanna hitting us tomorrow!
Mom & Wes dropped us off at the house and we dropped the luggage just
inside the front door. Unpacking can happen tomorrow!Of course the first thing we did was get greeted by our
kitty Raven, who obviously missed us very much!! All the meowing and purring
and rubbing on us was a very much needed welcome home! …

Well I've been wanting to write a journal on here from my trip to India, I wanted to be able to do it all at once but I think I'm going to have to do it in pieces so here goes.... Well getting our Indian visas was a story all in itself. We got the first ones and they were sent FedEx to my friends' house. She unfortunately was away when they were arrived and FedEx left them on her doorstep. As luck would have it, it rained the next day and soaked the package. When she got back they we…
