Our Wedding Day
posted by:
Jun 23, 2007 - May 21, 2008
Today was my day off work, and the day after my birthday, so we (Lena & I) went to the Route 450 bridge which crosses the Severn River, to watch the Blue Angels perform for the Naval Acadamy. They do this every year at this time as part of graduation week. After the show, we went down town for a walk and to get an icecream. It started off as a cloudy day with a few sprinkles of rain, but the rain never did come, and the sun came out to make it a very nice day down town.

Wild Ponies
posted by:

According to legend, several centuries ago a Spanish ship wrecked on the coast of Assateague Island.  As the ship broke apart, the horses fought the waves to find sanctuary on the sandy land, and today their descendents roam the barrier isles.  Although the ancestors of the wild ponies are most likely simply runaways, I was still very excited to visit Assateague. After stopping in the Visitor Center (which has a neat touch aquarium), I drove across the bridge to the island.  ...

Thomas Stone National Historic Site
posted by:

Pulling into Thomas Stone National Historic Site, I followed the road to the left which led to the Visitor Center.  A simple display explains the role Thomas Stone played in the events that shaped the beginning of our nation as well as some background on the man's legal career.  A video is also available.  After letting the park rangers know that I was interested in a tour of the house, I headed off along the road, one of two routes to the house. The house that currently stand...

Fort Washington

Less than a ten-minute drive from Fort Washington, the remains of Fort Foote are one of the few reminders of the 68 forts that once defended Washington DC during the Civil War.  I had known that the capital had extra protection during the war but I had no idea how extensive that system had been.  Wandering around in the wooded area where the fort had once been, I was fairly unimpressed, just seeing hills of dirt, now covered in grass.  Then I came over the top of one of the emb...

Having lived in Calvert County for over two years, I decided it was time to start visiting some of the local tourist sites.  First up: Annmarie Garden in Solomons in the deep south of the county.  The focus of this garden is not the beauty of flowers but of sculpture with most of the pieces on loan from the Hirshhorn Museum of the Smithsonian Institute in DC. After entering through ceramic gates, I circled A Tribute to the Oyster Tonger on my way to the parking lot and the Visitor'...

To the zoo!

After a short stop at the Chamber of Commerce (which has free parking for its visitors), I headed out of Salisbury to find the Pemberton Historical Park and its hiking trails.  I missed the entrance on the left due to 1) construction right beyond the entrance that distracted me and 2) the sign is very small and not brightly colored.  The drive leading up to the buildings has a speed limit on only 10 mph which I pretty much obeyed since going much faster created a much bumpier ride. ...

Rockville Town Center
posted by:
Jun 10, 2008 - Jun 11, 2008
Thunderstorms overnight had brought down tree branches and left the streets littered with debris. But, I was on my way from Springfield at the usual time for the third trip to Rockville and Maryland in as many days.  Rockville has its history and the community is proud of it. The local historic preservation organization goes by the name of "Peerless Rockville", invoking a real estate promotional phrase from the turn of the last century. Traffic around the Capital Beltway was t...

When we last left off my car was stranded at an airport parking lot with a dead battery, and the parking lot attendant wanted my waiver of responsibility form which mysteriously disappeared.Well, getting home from the airport was quite fast thanks to the rude taxi driver we had. Why rude? I won't go into everything, but the ride ended with him not wanting to allow me to charge the ride home even though the cab had a sign that credit cards are accepted. I wouldn't have minded paying cash...

The Road Goes Ever On

The days are counting down for me to leave for my "vacation". I will be leaving the country for about 5 months first traveling Europe for 2 months and then hopefully working in the U.K. for 3.  Right now nervous tingles are going through my body as I try to figure out what else I need to buy, who I have to call and what my plan is going to be.  This is what I have so far: Plane Tickets (JFK -> Rome) - August 1st and (London -> JFK) December 27Rail Passes: 15 days within 2 mont...

The night before we leave for Myrtle Beach, the bad omens begin!

Finally Thursday night is here; the night before we leave for our vacation in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I was hoping to get off work early, but noooooooooooooo, that was not to be. I actually ended up leaving later than I usually do!   7:20pm and I’m finally on my way out the door from work to pick up my daughter Courtnie (Roguefairy13, yeah she’s on here now too!) and son Mike, from their mom’s house in Davidsonville, about 10 or15 minutes from my job in Annapolis.   ...

Well, I really can't write about all these other places in the world without promoting MY fine state can I? Baltimore: "Charm City' is a secret gem of a place to visit, and to live. It was crap in the 1970's, but has risen above to become a great destination. Since I fly, I'll show you much of the state from the air AND the ground. Enjoy. Travelogue in-progess.

2007 in Review

2007 was a good year.  After 6 years of silence--playing music only to myself--I finally decided it was time to reconnect with the world again.  At first I tried going out and playing at Open Mikes around the area... then I started doing Coffeehouse gigs... these were fun--but somehow not fully satisfying.  I guess I've got this need to feel I'm doing something unique, and Open Mikes and small gigs just weren't doing it for me. Then, early one Sunday morning I had this inspira...
