Martin and Mason Hotel Reviews
Restored Western Hotel Brings Back the 1890's Dec 08, 2008
I stayed here in late september of 2008, it was really cold out in the mountainous town of Deadwood. I have been here on and off a few times throughout my life, travelling between Wisconsin and Washington. I spotted the Martin Mason hotel when I was driving into town on (I-95?) south and saw the large sign on the brick building. It was new from the last time I had been in deadwood and my previous choices didn't stand out from last time so I thought I would give it a try. It was amazing. They have large king beds with great sheets and mattresses, but it was TOO soft for me, I guess I'm just a road warrior. The hotel is an 1890's building restored with actual antiques and funky victorian print wallpaper. It had really high ceilings 10+ and my room had a large clawfoot tub! It was quite an experience, I'm told the other rooms have showers and they have two suites on the end of the building. When I left they told me it was condemned when the owner bought it. Its now a national historic landmark. I'm glad they saved it.
