Oahu without the craziness of Waikiki May 23, 2008
If you love Oahu but Waikiki is just a bit much for a whole week you should check out the Marriott at Ko Olina. The resort is a "vacation club" but it is pretty easy to get a room there. There are standard hotel rooms, one room suites with full kitchens and two bedroom suites with kitchens. I'm not a fan of Building One. Building 2 on a high floor or anything in Building 3 will work. If you have a room with a kitchen plan on hitting the grocery store (there is a great Safeway close by) and grilling out at night. They offer multiple gas grills with all the utensils.

The pool is great if you are into that sort of thing and the four lagoons make for a relaxing day at the beach. The walkway that goes along the lagoons is one mile in length and connects this hotel with the JW Marriott.

Ko Olina is a good 40 minutes from Waikiki but if you go to Oahu to hike, kayak, surf and snorkel it really isn't much of an issue. A rental car is a must though. There is a marina where it is easy to rent a boat and they have a luau on Tuesday nights. The hotel offers a variety of activities onsite.

So if you love to go out and get dirty all day and then have a great shower and wonderful bed to sleep in this may be the hotel for you. Individuals who travel consistently and are tired of going out to eat every night will appreciate the kitchen and ease of having a more independent vacation.

Feel free to ask questions about Ko Olina anytime, just send me a PM.

Judie, this sounds like a nice hotel. I usually stay near Kaneohe, a good friend of mine lives there :-D

I would highly recommend the Ko Olina to anyone. We have one of those Marriott Timeshares, so I had the pleasure of staying at this resort on an exchange. It is very beautiful and comfortable, and staff members were so sweet and helpful. It's pretty far from Honolulu, but if you have a car and don't mind driving a bit, it's such a relaxing out of the way place to retire to. A variety of lagoons are within walking distance providing calm water to swim in. Roy's restaurant is literally across the street. It is absolutely impossible to get lost as the exit on the highway goes straight to this resort!
