Marriott Shanghai Hongqiao Reviews
Business Hotel in Shanghai Hongqiao District Nov 15, 2014
The Marriott Shanghai Hongqiao is, as its name implies, is in the Hongqiao area of Shanghai, within the Changning District. The Hongqiao International Airport (SHA) is close by and serves mainly as a domestic airport, with limited international service. The main international airport servicing Shanghai is Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) some 50 km away. Changning District is large, and mostly residential, but I understand has been developing more commercial and entertainment enterprises in recent years. It's an up-and-coming area of Shanghai, so to speak.
This is another hotel, like the Hilton Shanghai Hongqiao that mainly seems to cater to the Chinese businessmen because of its close proximity to the Hongqiao International Airport (SHA), making it convenient for domestic arrival in China. There really is no reason for tourists to stay here as it is quite far from the city center of Shanghai and requires a taxi to get to the center of things and see the sights. There really isn't even much surrounding the hotel as far as shops and restaurants go. Again, you would need a taxi to get anywhere, but it's maybe a 5 minute walk to the nearest Line #10 Metro Longxi Road station, but a traffic laden walk.
As far as the hotels go, this one has that Marriott standard you would expect from an upscale business hotel. There is a nice sculpture group when you drive up to the main entrance, accentuated by tall columns supporting an overhang. The lobby itself is gorgeous with a piano bar and sitting area in the center, and a 2nd floor walkway that traverses all around it with a view below. The marble floors are super shiny and accentuate nicely with the decor. The hotel seems to be fairly new, and Hongqiao area of Shanghai is being built up. There seems to be a good deal of construction going on all about. This is quite typical to see in big Chinese cities today.
The rooms themselves have the Marriott standard, spacious and clean with comfortable bed, nice bathroom, wide screen TV and free wifi. There is a pool area and spa area on upper levels to enjoy. Overall a very nice hotel to stay in, but the location is just too far from the city center to be a choice if you stay in Shanghai for tourism. If you just have business in the Hongqiao area then this is probably the best, most upscale business hotel in the area.
