Marriott Portsmouth Reviews
Expensive with poor service Jul 25, 2011
I stayed in this branch of the Marriot chain for 3 nights in a row.
It is a 1970s hotel which has been extended and refurbished.
The bed was absolutely BRILLIANT very comfortable.
The restaurant and bar service was terrible. I complained on the first night and it was still bad the second night, but they gave me a free drink..
Very mediocre and very expensive.
Only stay here is your business is paying and you can't find anywhere else.
Despite their average room rate being quoted at £81. The best price I could negotiate was £185 per night

I wouldn't say that the service was extraordinary. Given that the hotel is 4-star, it didn't really meet my expectations as a 4-star hotel. It was just ok. It's not too far from where the office is located and they provide the service to and from, except that they really don't follow the service schedule more often than not. The train station is not walking distance, and you have the option of taking the bus for 1.50 pounds fare(the bus stop is about 10-15 mins minutes walk from the hotel depending on how fast you walk) but the frequency is about 30 mins after each one (worse on Sundays). The cab costs 5 to 6 pounds to the Cosham train station. The nearest pub/restaurant you could find in the area is at Port Solent, about 15-20 mins walk.
