Marriott Hotel at Gateway Park Aurora (Colorado)

The Denver Airport Marriott is located at Gateway Park, which is a 20-minute drive from Denver International Airport. I had not planned to stay the night in Denver. It was only supposed to be a one hour layover before I boarded a flight to Calgary and then onto Fort McMurray.

As I learned on many occasions during this trip, things do not always go as planned. The flight to Calgary was canceled before I had a chance to board it and the agent at the ticket counter told me another flight would not leave until the morning. It turned out that fog and high winds had shutdown the Calgary Airport.

I thought I would have to spend the night in the airport, but the ticket agent gave me a voucher for a local hotel at distressed traveler's rate. I called the number and got a great deal for one night at the Marriott. There was even a free shuttle from the airport.

I checked in, had a great dinner, and slept like a baby. This was much better than my plan of sleeping on the floor of the Calgary Airport, while I waited for my flight to Fort McMurray. Sometimes fate works in mysterious ways.
