Arriving at Marrakech Airport Aug 21, 2012
Always bring a pen when arriving at Marrakech Airport to fill out the visa card. As nice as the Airport building is, the Airport does not provide pens and it seemed the last time I was here, the whole plane was passing around one pen. It is generally pretty slow getting through Immigration and if a couple of flights land at the same time, you could be waiting an hour to get through; so if you have your card filled out ready , you can save valuable time and get through a little quicker.

Marrakech-Menara Airport Oct 20, 2009
Marrakech-Menara Airport is the airport outside the city of Marrakech. It's large and air conditioned and that's about as good as it gets. There's nothing here beside a duty free through control and bugger all before hand. Plenty of empty space through. Now while I'd usually advise to come as late as possible, in this instance I'd advise being at least on time if not early. Why you ask? Well it's simply because Moroccan boarder officers are painfully slow. I'm not sure if it's because their just lazy, bored or malicious but they are far and away the slowest boarder guards I've ever come across. It took me 45 minutes to get through each way. In a queue of 7 people. Shocking. Also, on departure, make sure you get in the right lane. Literally as there's one queue for men and another for women. The women's seems much slower. After all, you couldn't possibly let them mix, could you? This seemed to outrage a few French women who promptly blamed their husbands. I thought the whole thing was hillarious.

In order to get into Marrakech you can get the bus, a system I was unable to figure out (you need to pre-arrange it I think) or you take get ripped off by taxi drivers. Cost into the city is €14. It should be about half of that but they aren't particularly interested in talking about it. I tried but soon discovered this was the price for everyone. Nothing like a cartel to greet you into a new country. Best bet is to get your hotel to arrange someone to pick you up. I suppose you could rent a car but unless you're suicidal I wouldn't recommend it.
