A really amazing wine tour Aug 16, 2008
Marqués de Riscal was first a vineyard and winery in the Rioja region in Spain, but it is now most famous for the Starwood hotel which was designed by Frank Gehry (designed the Guggenheim in Bilbao). It is a huge modern creation with massive purple and gold metal "ribbons" which are meant to represent the wine and wire nets the wine bottles. It;s really quite a specticle.

You can book tours of the winery for about 10€ which are awesome. They are about 1 h 45m and admittedly it was in Spanish (although I did have my own personal translator) which was disappointing but we went through the old original buildings, to the newer and extremely modern ones. Really interesting.

The wine tasting at the end was extremely generous (like 2 full glasses of delicious wine. The cellar door was really great value for stocking up on the delicious wines :)
