Jax Beach's hidden treasure Jul 12, 2011
If you're traveling in Jacksonville, Florida or anywhere close by, you must stop in to Marker 32. Hidden away next to a marina on the Intracoastal, you would drive by it without a second glace. It's a restored old house that has been around for 18 years with the same talented executive chef, Ben Groschell. The kitchen pours out amazing local seafood caught by the chefs buddies, produce from local farms and desserts from a heaven sent pastry chef. It is completely down to earth, but is incredibly elegant and classy. The food is moderately priced for what you get to enjoy, but can be expensive to standards of a back packing traveler, but SO well worth the money. You'll leave, fat, happy and ready to go into a food coma.

A few of their specialties include Marker 32 Broiled oysters (oyesters topped with bacon, sun dried tomatoes, spinach and an amazing butter cream sauce then finished off with cheese and cooked in the broiler). A warm spinach salad, tossed with mushrooms, eggs, bacon, topped with swiss cheese and tossed in the broiled so the cheese melts, gets crisp and deeeeeeeeelish. My favorite entree is the local fish with hoppin' john. This side dish is jasmine rice, field peas, cherry tomatoes, lemon, bacon, basil pesto, spinach (or whatever green veggie the chef wants to throw in there) Apps range from $5-12, salads $3.50-9, entrees $13-30.

Again, my favorite restaurant in Jacksonville, by far.
