Mariam Hotel Madaba

I plan everything about Jordan itinerary and trip plan based on the recommendation from one website. In the website one of the recommended hotel is Mariam Hotel with the advantage of having a daily excursion package (altough - coprdinated separately from the hotel). The hotel looks warm with a cozy living room like in their receptionist area. 2 sets of couch and tables,with a drawer and TV,plus a desktop forinternet connection (they charge 1 JD ~1.5 USD/ 30min) or wireless if we have our own laptop. Some Jordanian mosaic or scenery picture hanging on the wall. The inside of teh hotel are allpainted in terracota color with some Jordanian rugs hanging on the wall or floor.
The room are quite spacious with private bathroom - cleanliness is ok. Not so luxurious.
One thing I like from the room is that there are plenty of power plug. Very useful, so you can just charge mobile phone, camera-1, camera-2, laptop, at one go and leave them.
They have a dining room located nearby the pool (I guess in the summer time, it will be nice sitting beside the pool, but when we came with average temp of 15degC during the day, I guess everybody's happy with indoor restaurant).
The service is fast and friendly.
One good point from Mariam Hotel is the taxi which serves in excursions package. Even they have a drop off service to Petra. Every morning, after breakfast time, Issa, the coordinator of the taxi will appear in the living room,and whoever wants to go anywhere in the list, just need to tell them and he makes some call and deal's sealed!
Low season rate for this hotel (dounle room) is 50USD or 35 JD, which quite average for hotel rates in Jordan

This is a great place to start your Jordan adventure. It is only 20km from the Queen Alia Airport and not towards Amman (i.e., much less traffic). Situated in Madaba, a great staging ground for exploration of magnificent nearby sites.

There is a (slow) internet connection available in the lobby (they charge 1JD per half-hour, if the desk clerk notices you sitting there), and they have a restaurant in the hotel...extremely convenient if you have just arrived. The crowd here is decidedly Western, so you if you hail from an English-speaking culture you should encounter folks to easily converse with.

But if you have read about the 10% discount for telling them you were referred by the 'Rough Guide' --> forget it! I got presented with a photocopied letter in French and a long diatribe around how this had not been authorized when I inquired. But no worries, the rates are ridiculously cheap. The rooms are cramped, but definitely worth the price of admission.
