Margarita Penon Puntarenas Reviews
a place for backpackers Oct 30, 2010
Hotel Margarita is what it is. It's not a "hotel" at all, and there are no margaritas in sight. It's a families house that has a few rooms converted into guest rooms. The rooms are very small and basic, just a bed and table. There is one bathroom and one shower, and you will probably have to take your place in line to use them. That being said, this place is a bargain at around 3 US dollars a night. If you're on a tight budget you can't beat it!
The owners don't speak much English but are very friendly and welcoming. Just plan on going to bed not long after the sun goes down. The owners go to bed early and the walls are paper thin.
You won't find this place on hostelworld or in any of the guidebooks. It's one of those places you have to ask a local about. I was walking around the side streets in Puntarenas and happened to stumble upon it.
This is a good place to stay if you're on a budget and want to be close to the ferry. I also enjoyed meeting the family that ran the place. A true Costa Rican experience.
