Maras salt ponds are an fantastic place to visit. Honestly, this place is for me much nicer than most of the ruins in sacred valley because there are people still working this terraces and it just looks spectacular. I heard one guide saying that there is a salt cave deep inside of that hill and that little stream washes salt here and there and leaves it over the salt collection terraces. If you are into trying the salt, look for the white one, because reddish and brownish are full of the dirt therefore diluted a bit.

You can walk on the paths, but be very respectful and nice to everyone working there because it is a hard job with little money back. All the “stores” at the entrance are owned by locals and you can get some nice stuff from them.
