Maple Ridge Vacation Guide
Maple Ridge is located about 50 kilometers west of Vancouver, or about 45 minutes to an hour drive...depending on the traffic. About 70,000 people call Maple Ridge home. It is one of the oldest municipalities in British Columbia. It also sits next to the Fraser River, the longest river in B.C.
Maple Ridge is also home to Golden Ears Provincial Park, one of the biggest provincial parks in the province. It's a popular spot for camping, hiking, and boating. There is quite a few popular lakes here as well, including Alouette Lake, Stave Lake, Rolley Lake, and Whonnock Lake.
Recently the downtown core has been developed more, with a large business center built and a theater called the ACT that hosts plays, concerts and other events. This has been done in hopes of getting rid of the drug and homeless problem that has recently become and issue in Maple Ridge. Also, about two-thirds of the working population commutes to another community in the lower mainland or downtown Vancouver.
Maple Ridge also has well organized youth sports programs. The town has turned out its share of proffessional athletes, including baseball player Larry Walker, hockey players Brendan Morrison, Cam Neely and Andrew Ladd, and race-car driver Greg Moore.
Maple Ridge nightlife is a bit sad. There is one main club/bar that has a not so good reputation and a quite a few smaller pubs. Vancouver is close enough to Maple Ridge though, it doesn't matter too much.
