A relaxed day on Maokong, drinking Taiwanese Tea and over looking Taipei City. May 22, 2011
Maokong is a mountain, on this mountain lies many tea houses, in these tea houses you can taste the best Teas that Taiwan has to offer, while enjoying the great view of Taipei city.

Taipei gets pretty cold in the winter time, so the best time to visit is from May to October, after that you'll need big jackets if you wanna check it out anyway.

Once you get up there, there's a couple of main streets to walk around, lots of traditional vendors, lots of tea houses to choose from. We usually go for the ones that have the best view of Taipei 101, the tallest building in Taiwan.

Tea houses offer delicious Taiwanese cuisine, mostly cooked with Tea Oil, which is very healthy for the body, and many other dishes with Tea substances in them, and of course, a large selection of Teas. This is the main attraction, Taiwanese people like to spend a quiet afternoon up there drinking tea.

Besides the tea houses, before you get up there, there's the famous Gondola, a cable car system. the gondola is about 10mins walk from the final metro station. it's quite hard to miss, usually there's tones of people waiting in line to take the gondola. it's a pretty long ride, about 25mins, for only 50NT, really cheap.

on the way up, there's only 2 stops which people can get off at, one of them has a pretty cool temple to visit, something that you can do before hitting the top.

In every cities i've been to, people always suggest going to the highest point of the city to get a good look of the area, in Paris there's Montmartre, in Rome there's Monte Mario, and in Taipei, there's Maokong. well, Taipei 101 is the highest point, but you don't get to see it when you're inside the building.
