Practical Hole in the Wall Mar 10, 2009
I wanted to book the most affordable accommodations because I was going to stay indefinitely in Manila, so I decided to try a backpacker's hostel. Many of my traveler friends have ranted about how crappy hostels can be, but I wanted to experience it, too because I think it will help me understand traveler needs better (I work in the travel industry, too). I braced myself for a super crappy bed and actually looked at nearby places that I could go to in case it was not bearable, but thankfully, it was not that bad. I actually kind of liked staying there because I got to talk to young travelers.
The guests are mostly foreigners (actually, I was the only Filipino) - backpackers who would only stay a night or so. When I was there though, there was this one Malaysian guy who had been there for 3 weeks (the place is that practical in terms of rates). The bed is okay, it's not rock hard like I read in some reviews, although it's not soft as a feather either. They give you a towel, soap and a wad of tissue complimentary. You are assigned a locker and there are in-room flip flops you can use. The staff are friendly and helpful and can speak English fairly well. The place is good for backpackers. Probably not for business travelers and families hehe. It is nicely situated - the building is right across the US Embassy, is near major historical sites and the aquarium. There's a 24-hour Chow King, Yellow Cab Pizza and Starbucks in the ground floor of the next building. Part of the Island-Hopping travel blog |

Needs Improvement but nice location Mar 04, 2009
we found this hostel at backpackers site, we texted the number displayed on the website posted for booking. when we were in the location, there's no available room for us.. how could that be? we've booked 2 weeks ago. suddenly, we were booked in their other hostel at Quezon City which is very far from roxas blvd. in farther conversation, they offer us a family room cost P1,400.00 (4 pax). the place is clean and the location is great!.. Please improve your trash bin, there should be plastic bags on each trash bin for a cleaner environment. No greetings noted from the hostel attendants and most of the occupants were foreigners.
