Mangga Boutique Hotel Kuala Lumpur Reviews
Comfortable and Affordable, but nowhere near the city! Oct 02, 2011
My friend and I stayed at the Mangga Hotel for 3 nights on our trip to Kuala Lumpur. After making our way from the International airport to the city centre, we then struggled to get a taxi who would take us the distance. Once we made it to the right area after being stuck in traffic for over an hour and half, the hotel was not where it was meant to be. Our taxi driver had our hotel's details, and had to stop several times to ask where it was - and no one seemed to know where it was. After driving around in circles for nearly half an hour, we spotted the sign "Mangga Hotel" - the address on our booking was NOT the actual address of the hotel. The map was quite confusing and the hotel should look into giving prospects the correct hotel info.
So after all the drama of finding it.... the hotel seemed very nice. Small, but nice. Our room was comfortable, with 2 single beds that were quite nice to sleep on. We had air con, cable TV, and the bathroom was big, with a decent shower and good water pressure. We also had a desk, and free WIFI. Not much room to store luggage, but luckily my friend and I only had a small bag each. The hotel looked like it was either new, or had just been refurbished. One downside is that our room didn't have any windows - it would have been nice to at least view the streets, or possibly even the city. The lift in the hotel is very small too - just big enough to fit 3 people and 3 very small bags.
The staff were friendly and very accommodating, and also spoke very good English. We requested a taxi to the airport upon departure, and they were able to ring up and book one for us. There is a fridge in the lobby selling drinks (water, soft drink and beer) at very cheap prices. Staff also offered to help book us tours, but we decided to explore the city on our own.
Good price per night - about 1000baht (100MYR), but we did book in advance.
Hotel is not close to much - there are a couple of restaurants across the street (we ate at a Chinese Restaurant on our first night), and a McDonalds. You need to get a taxi to the train station to take you into the city. Once we headed out for the day, we didn't come back until bed time, as it was too far to travel back and forth during the day. Reviews on the internet said the place was close to the city - but it isn't. Close to the Sunway Pyramid shopping mall.
If you don't mind the travel into the city/KLCC, it would be a good place to stay when visiting Kuala Lumpur - but for me, I would have preferred something in the city centre.
