Mangalore is a chief port city of the state of Karnataka, about 350 kms from state capital Bangalore. It lies on the windlward side of the Western Ghats, hence subjected to moisture laden winds throughout the year. The city's landscape is adorned by coconut trees, freshwater streams, terracota tiled roof houses.
The Yakshagana, a night-long dance and drama performance, is held in Mangalore. Nagaradhane (snake worship) is performed in the city in praise of Naga Devatha (the serpent king), who is said to be the protector of all snakes.
