Mandela Family Museum Johannesburg Reviews
The World's Most Famous Prisoner Sep 17, 2001
If history ever made headlines, the history of Nelson Mandela did in a way that resounded in the entire world. Having been in captivity for 27 years, he turned around and became the President of South Africa. An advocate against Apartheid. The Moral dignity he showered I believe ends with him.
I recommend visiting the Mandela house turned museum. Well the house has been remodeled so it does not look like it did when Mandela lived there. It is the home of his childhood and that of his wives and children. The 4 bedroom house has been divided to display photographs, memorabilias and paintings of the Mandela family. An interesting display of awards, recognitions and honorary doctorates from the different institutions of higher learning world wide is in one of the rooms as well.
Again, this is a guided tour, I do not encourage anyone to go by themselves because it is located in Soweto. Even though apartheid ended, the neighborhood is still not as safe as it should be. The guides are local and quite knowledgeable. But if you read ahead before
your trip, you will like this tour much more.
